Table Loom Set up and Weaving Weekend - tutor Karuna Peralta.

  • 14 Jan 2023 (10:00 am) to 15 Jan 2023 (16:00 pm)
  • Broadgreen House, The Le Cren Room, 276 Nayland Road, Stoke, Nelson, 7011, New Zealand
  • Show on map

Two-day weaving workshop – plus some finishing at home if necessary.

This workshop will take you step by step to set up a 4 shaft table loom ready to weave a narrow-width fabric.

Following a hands-on demonstration, you can select your colours, then design and make a warp using a warping board or drum. There will be a wide variety of colours, fibres, and textures to choose from. You will ‘dress’ the loom (raddle, wind, thread, sley and tie on).

After setting up your loom, you will be taught a few different techniques to weave small fabric samples using a relaxed and intuitive method of weaving. The woven fabric can later be made into cup coasters or incorporated into small sewing projects.

If you live close by, and are still weaving at the end of day 2, you may wish to borrow the loom to finish your weaving at home and return it to the tutor (in central Nelson) the following week.

If you have your own working table loom, and want to bring it along to set up and work on, please feel free to.

Materials cost is $20 per person, payable to the tutor (via Internet banking is OK)

Complementary tea, coffee & biscuits are available at the workshop. Please bring a packed lunch and water bottle. The Stoke shops are fairly nearby if you need to purchase snacks or lunch.

Class size max 4 people. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness and openness to learn and create.
