Harakeke -  NZ Flax Basket Making/Pikau (Back Pack)  - some previous Flax Weaving experience preferred

Weave your own Pikau - This is a traditional woven back pack.

As the techniques to weave a pikau are more challenging, it is preferable to have had some prior Harakeke Weaving experience.  The cultural customs of tikanga and rarangi are covered more extensively in the introductory workshops, please see upcoming workshops for further details.

This two day workshop is a progression from the Introduction to NZ Flax Weaving workshops or you may have previously acquired some flax weaving skills, making this workshop a good opportunity to refresh your knowledge.

Weave a top down or bottom up backpack. We will dye the harakeke and weave a basic pattern to honour the weavers that are travellers and foragers.  Also great gifts to be 'seen around town.' Bring a button or shell as a closure for your own unique Pikau.

For workshops held in Inangahua - accommodation options please enquire here.
